A deck that ignores the grade, the patio and the door it comes out of always looks bolted on. We set the heights, the transitions and the materials against everything around them before anything gets framed.
Materials and lumber
Lumber and decking are sold in imperial here, so that is how the quote reads — joist spacing, board widths and lengths in inches and feet, with the material list broken out on its own line.
If a structure needs a permit, we tell you up front and can help with the application. The permit itself remains the homeowner’s responsibility.
Deck and outdoor structure questions
Do decks need a permit?
Most do. A deck generally needs a permit if it’s attached to the house or more than 24 inches off the ground, and rules can vary by municipality. We know the process well and can help with the application, but the permit remains the homeowner’s responsibility.
What materials do you build with?
Most of our decks today use pressure-treated framing with composite decking, finished with aluminum or glass railings. Cedar is also available.
Can you build a deck and patio together?
Yes. Because we do both carpentry and hardscaping, we can plan the deck, steps, patio and planting as one project, with one quote and one crew lead.
Do you build pergolas, pavilions, gazebos and cabanas?
Yes. We build both kit structures and custom-framed designs, including structures planned around pools, fire pits and outdoor kitchens.
